The Good Bad Times
The Good - Bad Times I wonder if you would care to take A trip down memory lane with me And reflect upon the bygone days Then tell me if you might agree Basic were our amenities then The simple life was all we knew To glean our needs, from off the land Was what we sought, to see us through Long hours and hard labor, I recall And wages from the work was slim Making "ends-meet", was a task At times the future seemed so grim Crops in the field would depend Upon rain, sunshine and hail Escaping frost, - always a concern So many reasons, for all to fail But there was contentment then That made the bad times good On a neighbor you could always depend Each others problems, we understood A handshake was the signature Confirming the price of some land A legal contract it was deemed No more from each other did we demand Locks on the doors, were not as vital As in this "modern" day If a stranger knocked upon your door To open it, usually, - was OK A child's gift on Christmas day Though sometimes meager, it brought joy The gleam in their eye, let you know They appreciated, - a simple toy Proclaiming God, was not questioned On coin, or in the school And there was reverence to the flag Many adhered to the golden rule Although the high-tech race of today Offers some good things, it is true There is a void, of "the good-bad times" Those nostalgic moments, we once knew Colan L Hiatt = 10-21-13 © All Rights Reserved
