Midnight Air
he whispered to me, "we shouldn't be here, you and i. but i'll be with you till our time comes in the sky." "he's coming back you'll see." i would tell my friends so late at night. and they'd just smile at me then pass the blunt and say it was alright. back when all our days were succulent and all our nights spent with the stars. we used to hide away from authority, forget society. would you remember me? there were no better times than the ones we spent in your basement collecting dust and sixties rock. i've tried many times but no memory can replace them. we were sixteen sneaking in and out of bedrooms. running wild in the midnight air. dressed in black, adorned with flowers in our hair. she breathed into me, "stay so still, everything fades way too fast." so we held our breath as may turned to june and we dipped our toes in your pool, but fall always comes too soon. you looked so tan and careless on our way down to hond pond. but i got so stoned and forgot to ask you "what's it like to be in love?" a couple years pass and i find out for myself that love is just a fleeting thing. only kept around by a wedding ring. but i still trust my heart with you. "you make the sad parts seem less blue." I whispered to you that last time you got too close. and you told me, "you will always have me, and when i die, i'll be your ghost."
