Before and Now Again
Before And Now Again Sitting in the silence before and now again. Not a sound that touches me and I just drink it in. Soon a broken heart may find me, there's no place I can hide. Like a scream from out of nowhere that touches me inside. Someone lost a lover, or else they've been betrayed. Someone walked away somewhere, someone wishes they had stayed. No one else can hear their cries or feel their teardrops fall. So somehow they turn to me. They know I feel it all. It rips my heart wide open and I have no control. It has it's own way with me and then tears at my soul. When I'm about to lose my mind it goes from bad to worse. Then I'm left here wondering, is this a blessing or a curse? I start searching shadows deep in the dark of night. And listen to the whispers that tell me what to write. I don't know where this will end, or even how it started. As I wrestle with the demons that haunt the brokenhearted. Still I fight against the anguish, I stand against the shame. The demons they all know me and they call me by my name. But for now I sit here all alone, before and now again. Listening to the silence and I just drink it in. Edwin C Hofert
