Chin up, smile everything will be alright, they say. Stop crying, fix your makeup, it’s not ok to be sad they say. Cover your shoulders, stand up straight, don’t be the little tramp everyone thinks you are they say. They say. They say. They say. They force you to shove your fingers down your throat and purge the scripted words society has rightfully placed in your mouth. Your intelligence is based on the novel lies that the world has convinced you to be true. Voices penetrate the mere thought of anything original forcing the world to become uniform. When they spoke of integration I do not believe they meant for the world to become just one idea. The voices are not escapable, diverse paths are almost incapable, they’re jeering almost unbearable, making me believe that being myself is not in fact an option. So I tell them to stop. Stop telling me how to make the dreams you have drilled so far into the membrane of my skull to come true. Stop telling me how to live my brainwashed life. Do not tell me to preach what’s wrong when I clearly know that at the moment standing on that podium, I know what is right. Indifferent is different but not the different people smile upon. But why not? Drop your judgmental stares and how about for once you let someone live to be the person they are meant to become. Dreams cannot come true when they weren’t your dreams in the first place, Happiness cannot exist when the unfamiliar smile is not yours. Stand up with your juvenile ways and except the punishment that comes with it because if being happy is barbaric then toss me the hand cuffs. You can take me but you cannot take my soul, for that is all I have left to stand for. And here I remain to stand. And I am ok with what they say, because what they say does not define who I am.
