Yet I Stay
Yet I stay, And wonder why I’m still here. I’ve been abused, betrayed, used. Sometimes I feel I'm dangling on the edge, Wanting to jump off into the abyss. Yet I stay, I loved him more than life. God only knows what I would do for him. I repaired my broken heart, but it is still fragile. “I love you baby” he says with his hand in a fist. Yet I stay, Starring into the eyes of my lover, I protect myself from his strike. “I’ll promise to never do it again” he says. I’m vulnerable, hurt, and confused. Yet I stay, With the man I can never leave, Because I’m afraid I may go back. “This time it is for real” I say to my reflection. Yet I stay, “promises are meant to be broken” he says. My lover, my future, my life strikes me down again. I see darkness, my life flashes before my eyes. Yet I stay.
