Old Fashioned Me
Old Fashioned Me So you say you're leaving me and you're all packed up to go. Before you shut the door on us there's something you should know. With all the memories that we shared and things still yet to be. I'd like to share my reasons for my being old fashioned me. I watched my grandpa and my grandma as they held each other tight. I saw the way love hurt him the day she died that night. I saw the love that crushed him he couldn't live and be apart. On the very day we buried her he died of a broken heart. I saw it all unfolding as I watched my mom and dad. As they gave thanks each evening for the few things that they had. I watched them as they struggled I saw the tears they cried But still they loved each other right up til the day they died. But you say you want your freedom and I guess that we all do. And even though you're leaving I'm free to still love you. So as you go about your way with so much you long to see. I hope you enjoy the freedom cause you're free to not love me. Should you find aching in your soul and you're sure your heart is broken. Try hard to just remember these words that I have spoken. And know a heart is waiting and it's beating for you still. Because it's just old fashioned me just know, I always will. Edwin C Hofert
