Fallen Fields
Why do we love those we love? Why do we march them away into the falling night beyond the gray pale before the red dawn o' what a sight to see those loyal men that are now gone The sun is shining down on these green fields of France but over there in deserts bare and dead, all their flowers long since dried There is no soft wind to carry their cries homeward, noone to lower them down into the barren earth so battered so torn, all these good men who have died How did they do it, so brave and so strong my heart goes out to their wives that they haven't seen in so long For all my shame and sorrows my heart does lament these brave men fallen in anger, their bodies lie still in bold testament But somewhere else the sun shines down, so warm and so bright We made them leave there to fight, they marched away into the dark night I can't help but wonder, why must they go because our lies in vain had all told them so and I'll cry tomorrow for what we did to them yesterday let's hope that the sun shines on them now as we sing and we pray
