Have You Found Poetry
i Have you seen Poetry? Because I have heard that she looks like 'beauty', to the blind. I heard that she is like unto the ear, as colour is to the eye. I heard that she paints moving pictures, with her lips. I heard she largely resembles her author, but partly resembles her reader. I heard she is unique and yet well known, like ever single day. I heard she looks like a child yet to be born; pregnant with beauty. And I heard she appears as like a dream to a realist, but as real to a dreamer. ii Have you heard Poetry? Because I have heard that his voice is like singing, without song. I have heard that he sounds like freedom to a caged bird, like power to a slave. I have heard that he sounds shots of revolution, in the quiet of the day. I heard he often utters lines that go on to change lives. I heard his present narrative adds to a chorus, which echoes through time. I heard that he ‘Pied Pipers’ attention, with enchanted unknowns. And I heard he brings forth mysterious meanings, from familiar friends. iii Have you felt Poetry? Because I have heard she has stolen the hearts of lovers. I heard that she can evoke the past, and provoke the future. I heard that she has stood on the shoulders of great men, and forced them to their knees with weeping. I heard she captures the zeitgeist and can stir people into action. I heard she has immense presence, yet cannot always be grasped. I heard no one is her master, and she betrays many feelings. But I heard she has many names, and her first name is love. Have you tasted poetry? Mike Concise 2009 (c) www.mikeconcise.com
