Fortune of Fools
Some worship gods of gold as their goodness turns to greed Like saviors made of silver keeping weak ones on their knees Some appetites are angry like werewolves full of want Sin is never satisfied...it's a monster screaming more For the dollar and the diamond badness turns into a beast Betraying their own blood...for a penny...for a piece Rusty blades plunged in the backs of friends now turned to foes They're calling it success but it's the fortune of fools Those churches and those chapels are now turned into casinos Preachers at the pulpits turn into pimps and prowling schemers "Give until it hurts!" That's what they say as they get paid Fill their billfolds full of bankrolls then turn their backs and walk away As they drive down dirty streets they pass starving children in the cold Living only for their lusts They're calling it success but it's the fortune of fools At pearly gates they meet the maker...their life movies start to play Did they give love unto strangers or walk in their wrong and wicked ways? Did they share and share alike or take greed to the grave? Did they show a life of love or were they concrete hard and cold? What will be your answer as you stand before the throne? Cut down and cast away into Heaven they can't pay Now they're running from Hellfire...for this day is their doomsday The devil now he comes to collect what he is due They tremble now with fear as they can hear his big black boots Used and broken like a tool They're calling it success but it's the fortune of fools
