A Chicago Christmas Snow
Every rooftop was covered in fluff. Icicles dripping their cold all around, That first white Christmas was a wonderful sight. Winter remembers that cold Chicago night. Christmas eve came with a blizzard of snow. Colorful lights reflecting a glorious show. Carolers all bundled, held candles, sang songs. Every family stayed warmly within. Streetlights highlighted the way for a sled. Smoke from each chimney rose; kids went to bed. Mom and dad planned their children’s delight. Long, long ago in white Chicago snow. Presents were placed around the tree inside. Parents looked on with a peaceful abide. Footsteps of ashes walked out from the hearth. They paused for a moment…Jesus Christ’s birth. Daybreak brought laughter and children wide-eyed. New clothes and toys in the front room were spied. They opened all swiftly; then, took their new sled. And on that White Christmas, down hilltops life sped. December 9, 2014 Written for Poetry Soup Member Contest: *A Christmas Snow* - Sponsor Gail Angel Doyle
