That Still Small Voice
In still small voice you spoke to me And whispered oh, so earnestly “Be careful, child, this will not do You wander far for pastures new… Be careful, child, I know your heart I know what lies in every part Your longings only I can fill And yet you go; I whisper still Come back to me and be at peace With me your every storm will cease My child, you are my precious one Why choose the night and not the SON!” You spoke to me in a still small voice But I still longed to make the choice I wanted to feel wildly free The one I hurt was only me Yes, I got hurt when I denied The truth you spoke, and so I cried To keep me safe, you placed a hedge You promised love in blood tinged pledge The still small voice, I didn’t heed My heart left bare to scar and bleed And yet you whisper sweet to me “I’m still here child, to set you free. So long ago, I came to earth You’ll soon be thinking of my birth I left all heaven, just for you I had to prove my love was true” Your still small voice I can now hear And though I’ve wandered, you are near I hear you whisper to my heart Lord, hold me close and never part Eileen Manassian Two key verses play a part in this prayer. One is a thought that I touched on in previous writes. God puts a hedge around those whom He loves to protect them...We sometimes choose to break down that hedge, and we suffer the consequences. Psalms 13: 5 - 6 You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it. Another thought is about how God speaks to us. He speaks to us through nature, though other believers, through His word, and sometimes...its that small voice that whispers in our ear. That's how it was with the prophet Elijah. He was afraid and was in hiding. God had plans for him. 1 Kings 19:11-13New International Version (NIV) 11 The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” The King James Version mentions...a still small voice. Yes, He still speaks to us...but do we listen?
