Sandals and Tennis Shoes Part One
You wear sandals And I wear tennis shoes We hate one another Occasionally We tolerate one another Occasionally We are always on different wave lengths You’re on A.M And I’m on F.M Because you wear sandals And I wear tennis shoes I told you once before that I like you Egotistical jerk But it’s so charming I guess it’s because we butt heads And we don’t back down Your wear sandals And I wear tennis shoes I laugh way too hard at your jokes I try too hard to fit in around you But that’s not me But you always stay you It’s because you wear sandals And I wear tennis shoes How about prom? You and your date looked nice You and me we twirled once or twice You corrected me I let it slide I’m going to honestly admit that I was planning on asking you to slow dance You in your dress shoes And me in my flats That night we weren’t so far apart But at heart you wear sandals And I wear tennis shoes You’re not as see throughas your shoes claim And I’m obviously not opaque I think our tastes made a mistake But if we walk one mile in each other’s shoes Do you think you could think of me the way I think of you? If only I wore sandals And you wore tennis shoes Sandals and tennis shoes? Please, its socks to cleats I’m a bad person And he’s wonderful I’m bad because I know that women matter more than what’s in her uterus He’s good because he thinks women have to give birth I’m bad because love is love as longed as it’s shared and consensual He’s good because it’s okay to be gay, just not in front of him I’m a bad person And he’s wonderful Hey, I was going to prom pose to you Yeah, you can even ask Sam I planned to give you an anonymous gift with prom question mark written on it every school day from the first of January to the last in march And the last one of 60 was going to be the band spelling out prom question mark on the practice field You wouldn’t have said yes, but I wanted my senior year to be about risks Can I still be your friend? Is that okay or is that just too ‘gay’ for you? Or is uncomfortable because you wouldn’t do it? Ben this might be the last poem about you I planned on defending myself, but why? I don’t matter anyways. I’m just a girl who can’t shut her trap is too loud, too tall, too big, and too much Ben I respected you so I never questioned you Now I’m sick and tired of wearing these god damn tennis shoes So ill show my socks Hey and guess what? I might be over you So walk away in your sandals while I burn my tennis shoes
