Alphabet Monster
The alphabet monster lives under my bed I know it is true for it is what it said: “Gather me blocks of wood!” He exclaimed “Colored alphabet blocks!” He proclaimed “or say good-bye to your curls, dear girl or perhaps your little bear named Burl!” The alphabet monster gains its vocabulary by eating block letters for his dictionary: “Gather me blocks of wood!” He exclaims “Colored alphabet blocks!” He proclaims “or never get a treat or dare sleep for under your bed I’ll always creep!” The alphabet monster has learned to rhyme by digesting letters on the blocks it finds: “Gather me blocks of wood!” He yells “Colored alphabet blocks!” He spells “or you will find my poem incomplete when it comes time that we next shall meet!” The alphabet monster feeds its appetite with alphabet blocks left on the floor at night: Perhaps this night before I go to bed I’ll place them in their right place instead and tell the monster to “Just go away! I’ve learned my lesson. I’ll pick up after play.” © Debra Squyres
