I Will Always Love Darkness greets this unwelcome day, Dreams of happiness fade away, They're gone before the sun's first ray; Tears are all I'm capable of..... Yet, I will always love At times, lacking the will to live, When I have nothing left to give, And solutions are elusive, Hopelessness fits me like a glove..... Yet, I will always love When I say I'm happy, I lie, Acknowledging my folly, I cry, When my pain I learn to deny, Reality gives me a shove..... Yet, I will always love I often walk through murky streams, When hearing life's deafening screams I hide in mists of poets' dreams, Begging compassion from above..... Yet, I will always love I seek safety among the crowd When old memories speak too loud, When draped in life's turbulent shroud, Why can't I find my peaceful dove? And yet..... I will always love! Lora Colon June 26, 2014 To Love Is To Surrender It's true that she loves her tears most of all, With her tears she starts every day, Could this be how she earns her pay? I keep wondering, what's in it for her? Not under arrest, why stay in the stir? There are times she says when with sun's first ray She feels already a loser, With few assets, she's no user, Even death it seems, claims her heart in vain. But his quest for her soul, still doesn't wane! I look hard but there is no abuser, My awareness set on high gain, But I see no cause for her pain. People around her seem blessed with God's love, Her problems past, only she's aware of! She wants to live large but scorns rich champagne Beauty, like Catherine DeNeuve, Her roots gypsy, with skin olive, Red wine and beer are more to her liking, She won't get drunk in spite of out psyching.* Happier days? It's death to speak thereof, The pain of her days often striking, Though she's cunning like a Viking, Any thought that she will spare you remiss, She's not a model for ‘living your bliss! ' No solutions? Her temper is spiking… In truth, all I need is a kiss, (Though dreaming of what I still miss!) Forget about peace, enjoy the clatter, Controlling things just conjures ‘Mad Hatter.' The desert's treasure is its oasis, ** Some die, in search of the latter, Life's not served on silver platter, Surely it's foolish to let this appall, When one's already in sight of landfall. Brian Johnston June 27,2014 Poet's Notes: Lora Colon's poem from her site on PoemHunter.com reprinted here with her permission. This Echo Poem is one of many that she and I have co-authored. We invite you all to check them all out now that they are finally published together as I had originally envisioned. *OK, 'out psyching' would be more correct written as 'psyching out' but you knew what I meant didn't you? And besides it rhymes this way and it is my poem. Just consider this a 'Twist' of a different kind OK! : -) **Don't you just love 'The Little Prince' as well!
