Love's Last Long Lost Letter
I am writing this letter Though I know you're not open, To receiving more letters from me. And there are many more letters In unclaimed mail boxes That resemble this one's appearance... All of them bear both our names. I thought this last time I might write you a poem But it seems quite unlikely to rhyme, ‘Cause already this letter is flowing And everyone knows now The way that it's ending, Is something that you'll never see. I know now I must Simply let go of us, Still you linger in my reverie, And even though we had fun, Drank life's wine to the dregs, Were even blessed by love's steed… Right now you're a stranger to me. A stranger, but still one that I have loved, To the heights, to the depths of my being. Our ship has sailed, we missed the boat, But every love song I write, Is perfumed by inspiration you bring me. And now, though all lies in jest, Through it all, you are, unforgettable. Brian Johnston May 14, 2014
