Musings
Musings © May, 2014 A newborn has an unmarked slate As fragile as its skin The tone of every word it hears Is slowly sinking in Sing softly and speak tenderly And as the infant grows It will reflect that nourishment As surely as a rose Extending aid to those in need Without pompous charade Will satisfy an humble man And give the act more weight A promise is an unpaid bill 'til that vow's satisfied No expectations once it's done Deserves a quiet pride Don't set the bar so high that you Will never reach the top Though getting high inside a bar's The quickest way to flop Some fortunes come with little work It's how you play your cards But that requires a lot of thought So, either way it's hard Trust won't be gained by mouthing words Since forked tongues can speak The only way to garner faith Is through your every deed A straight line is the shortest route To any place you go But winding paths round lake and glade Will purify your soul More wisdom comes from sitting still Absorbing sight and sound Than prattling bits already known Each time someone's around Though time can seem an endless thing If measured day to day When looking back across the years It quickly slips away And, one thing more, do not forget To listen to your heart If it's not still then you can bet There is still time... to make your mark
