The Tornado Came Towards Noon
Adele thought that it was going to be a lovely Fall morning, and getting off her bed like a sleepwalker who missed a step, she stumbled fearing she would fall, and peaking through the clear window she saw a sun-blazed cloud that floated high and low, and with no hint of danger from a peaceful sky, she returned to her bed humming a song to her son who was soundly sleeping. Adele had gotten up late, her boy had a fever and his body was hot, she watched him closely missing out on needed sleep as worry crossed her freckled face but making plans had to wait; a strange thud she heard...something had fallen off her top closet shelf, she thought it was over-packed and didn't bother to check... a minute passed, and a jolt rattled the wall facing her baby. Panic triggered fear, a fear that never had entered her naive mind: it couldn't have been an earthquake...California was far and she lived on Long Island, then again she realized that earthquakes can strike anywhere, anytime; and expecting the worse, she grabbed her infant as the tornado smashed her window; the incredible thrust lifted them up five feet off their bed, she held on dear life: luckily they were pushed down by the gravity force, and lived to see tomorrow.
