Wolf's Fall
The forest glowed green around me, Brimming with life as far as the eye could see. But I did not see the forest, I was hearing, in my ears, my heartbeat’s chorus. It was all I could do to stay on my feet, Because of the water’s slippery sheet. Carefully I place one foot in front of the other, My courage builds, as gracefully I complete one step after another. Finally I begin to believe that I am better than the cold, dark water, I believed my will alone, had broken that of the water. For I had conquered the wild and untamed torrent, But with this thought, it was as though I were signing my death warrant. My courage caused my paw to move just a little too far, And the log then became treacherous, as many are. I fell from the timber slowly, The river causing me to feel lowly. I feel myself falling, That frigid murk calling. I entered the water in an electric shock, My life flashed before me, as though I had turned back the clock. I aged many years in that moment, It was nature's way of leaving me a comment. Respect your place in this world, Or one day you may wake up with life’s wings furled.
