Taking Your Eyes Off the Star
In a terrible state she was. Heart shattered, joy stolen and life so moody. The innocent bed always got soaked But the pain within only grew worse. Confusion gripped her closely and life’s flavour wore off. In the midst of pining and crying, She caught a glimpse of a distracting star And light began to flood her once gloomy heart. Hope began to build its nest within. Then she decided the star to follow. Picking only her slippers, she began. Not really knowing where it led But sure it led to a better place. Such certainty perched on her heart. On the way, she noticed her burdens dropped Like leaves from trees in the fall. Joy unfathomable began to glow And life’s deepest secret unveiled: “I can help but myself.” She arrived at the town of many distractions Then she decided to embrace a break. So many things here were so appealing That she forgot who she forgot thus far. She had everything that should make her happy. But like the washing of sand by the sea shore Her joy eroded so silently. And her emptiness spoke out languidly. Now her state was a thicker shadow of when she begun Because she lost the freedom she once knew. She then wept sore with bitterness so heavy. And slowly began to trace back her steps to the gates To her unexpected relief, the star stood there.
