Father,No Hero of Mine
Father, no hero of mine Prayed everyday that a shadow of him will appear; an eye to the window,a hand on the curtain A flow of mothers tears, longing for lost love Longing for her man to return to her Remembering the days and laughter shared Now father is gone and mother holds a glass of wine Stories buried in family treasure chest, never to be told No more answers to questions about a roaming stranger Questions that brings back flashes of sad memories Memories soon to be erased, but never forgotten As a child plays, smiles at every figure of a man; Hoping, hoping that will be his father, the male figure much awaited Worthless efforts of a mother to tend to a son manly needs Teaching, teaching him the ways of a man, a hopeless activity He couldn't wait to point his son into the right direction He went away chasing the wind, hoping to find refuge in another woman's arms Forgetting the vows he made that he will be there in sickness and in health Father, no hero of mine Sometimes his children see him in their dreams coming back Bread in hand and briefcase on the other, the warm hugs of a father As soon as they open their eyes his no more, he disappeared with the night Gone forever, never to come back, to kiss them good night A hero of woman, shared love with most of them but not a hero of mine.
