Great Expectations
My coming age was with “Great Expectations” I expected to be loved, adored, cherished I expected to be that perfect someone The longed for princess in someone’s dream I expected that love really will conquer all And that dreams really do make one stand tall I expected passion to last forever…burning brighter I expected honesty to be real, a first foundation I expected people to care about the greater good I expected good to conquer evil, not just someday…but NOW I expected beauty to follow me, and grace every season of my life I expected………that happily ever after of my fairy tale world I expected to outlive death…….till the dawning of the better day I expected that the world would somehow be altered, changed because of ME Great Expectations They still follow my every step, every waking thought, and every lucid dream My life is halfway gone All those expectations have not brought about the expected I wonder…. Were my expectations too high? A hopeless idealist, romantic fool… Was I shooting for the stars? The lifespan of my expectations equals mine My heart always in a state of expectation To be loved, to be cherished, to be desired, to be adored My body in a state of expectation To be ravished, to be nurtured, to be revitalized, to be reborn My dreams in a state of expectation That finally, one day, one dawning day My dream will become a reality And I will see you Not with the eyes of my heart and soul But with these expectant brown eyes That look out of my face...searching The greatest expectation of my life That one day……. Finally… They will look up and see…. YOU! Eileen Manassian Ghali
