The Seedy Motel
The Seedy Motel By Elton Camp We were driving on an unfamiliar route For a stopping place we began to scout However, the search didn’t go very well For many miles there wasn’t a nice motel Since it was getting dark and we were tired Our standards lowered as to what’s required Finally we spotted a place over to the right A place to stay, although surely no delight The lawn hadn’t been mowed of late The exterior badly needed an update “Vacancy” the neon sign read So to shower and then to bed But the desk clerk we warily eyed Far too much make-up she’d applied “How can I help ya, Chum? As she whacked on her gum “We need to stay just one night.” “We rent by the hour, but all right. One thing I want to make plain: About bedbugs don’t complain.” “We won’t be staying,” my wife said In agreement, I nodded my head If we had to drive on too far We’d prefer to sleep in the car
