The Set Up
You were suppose to love me, . . . you did not. You were suppose to accept me, . . . you did not. You were supposed to protect me, . . . you did not. You lead the way of abuse, criticisms, and put downs, And others followed. You were suppose to nurture me, . . . you did not. Instead you tore me down, . . . never uttering a kind word, Never showing a good reaction to my accomplishments. You were suppose to show me, What the love of a man should look like, You were supposed to hug and hold me, Instead the only time you touched me was in anger, You only touched me at the end of your belt, You did not show me. Is it any wonder? I put up with slaps, belts, choking, name calling, etc., I tolerated the unthinkable, . . . from the men that I loved, From the men from whom I desperately sought love, ‘Til I said, enough. Again I say, is it any wonder I did? I was set up for tolerance, . . . Dad, Brother, Uncle, Grandfather, Step Father. By you. Indeed, that you did do.
