Floridian Tourist Trap
Mechanical crocodile growling from his speaker pennies from wishes cast out on his back Children are breaking the rules as they're leaning touching the fiberglass skin, gray and black. Snakes moving, coiled in ceiling tree limbs painted bright yellow and fluorescent green Moss hanging, mud gray and thick enter twining Butterflies moving on motors unseen Elephant eyelashes deliberately closing and opening to the gorilla’s soiree Above table seven where children sit laughing they beat on their chests and cause palm trees to sway. My daughter has eyes like the plate her food came on She has no idea she’s been fooled to a tee She hates all the noise and quick reflex surprises She’s just like the 3 year old girl that was me. Although it’s magnetic to eat in the “forest” chlorine from the fake waterfalls make one ill Any and all hoped for sweet conversation is drowned out by the animal robot distill Hats off to the forethought which makes this a jungle With token kids hanging off arms of their mothers who try to recapture the wonder and innocence they lost when they wound their souls tight to each other My daughter doesn’t need to be told this is fun She has a world in her head which surpasses such brashness We don’t need robotics to ponder our nature We watch aimlessly as deception entrances. Next year, we’ll go to Africa...
