A Leaf That Falls On a Summer's Day
A leaf that falls on a summer day Departs from the branch with so much glee; It gently floats without a sound Before it touches to the ground. Its days are over even a dumb could tell That time has consumed its chlorophyll; Yet when it sprouted and grew so green The trunk would ask her for nourishment. A leaf that cares not for fame at all Though on top of others when a tree stands tall; Yet what it does is not a complex role That a man should learn it in the school. If any man’s life be so a likened To that yellowed leaf that once was green; From what it owned to others given Then each day he lived is not in vain. No need for sermons or parables It is man’s conscience after all; The act of kindness is not of chance Each one is born with a helping hand One can complain or choose to follow What life can offer is neither joy nor sorrow It’s not rejoicing and not regretting Life’s final fall is not of dying. It’s how one lived that counts so much And the legacy when he departs If like a leaf he can do as such The joy would stay in one’s grateful heart. The winds of change may blow so swiftly And a man’s life may cease untimely But a gracious soul will go just gently Like a leaf that falls on a summer's day.
