The American Civil War
From Sumter to lee's surrender, The hostilities between, The fired shots, The wasted lives. Questions unsettled from nation’s Inception tried, The issues such as key The slavery question, North and south divided, Over them contended. For four years 'proximate, The fallen and the slain, Lying spread-eagled or prostrate, After the smoke and fire, The invisible element cleared. One half to arms deemed humane, The second half by profit blinded, A profit from toil, Off the backs of them from Across the sea, They brought to the land of the free, When freedom was deemed for Only those up the tree, The morally-blind's human tree. The questions which war forged, The same did war not settle outright! How! Many men were slain. How! Many men fell. And as blood grass blades covered - Dust grains stained, So deeds the pages of history Marked, And these indelible marks Have left upon the sands of Time.
