Different Is Not Broken
"Different is not broken" Imagine, A hopeless place, a place where you're told your never gunna matter, where teachers give you A's just to get that pay, Because our government set it up that way, A place where, Parents neglect their childrens learning disability, turning it into mental retardation, Making them suffer through intellectual starvation, Imagine...imagine that place, Now open your eyes, that place is our poor youths reality, Special Ed classrooms and programs, A classroom we've forgotten to pay attention too, But act like we pay attetion cos our government supplies that funding, N our teachers are given children who are products of their parents so obvious neglect, N in all honesty the people, We've stopped caring, Please understand my passion I want to return hope into these classrooms, These children from poor neighborhoods with barley the resources, Whose principals fake that smile when the superintendent is observing, When really all he's doing is serving the people's false hope, That were doing all we can for "these poor, poor, disabled children" , We're not. We need to start recognizing the streets these children are from, Providing the guidance that has yet to come, These children deserve a chance to be something in this world, N not just be taught that all they will ever do is take up space. I got kids reppin what streets they from, N what gangs they bang, Not realizing the actual meaning of the words that they speak, Only retaining the ways of the gangsters influencing them from their block, N the music industry ain't helpin them neither, My students listening to the philosophies of two chainz... When they should be listening to the words of Nas, Telling them they can be what they wanna be if they work hard at it, Instead of talkin bout what they want on their birthday, using labels that degrade women, Damn, No direction at home, Creating a social infection, Teachers avoiding that reflection, Letting them fall into the standard that society has created, Labeling them "poor retarded kids" Well I warn you I am one of many who are fed up, And will do anything to see these kids get up, And help them fight for their right to be whatever the hell they want to be, It's bad enough people shun bec of the way they look, What kinda crook are we to poison the mind of our youth, I'm tryin not to be pessimistic, But the way things are lookin it looks straight acidic, To stop caring bec they are all lost causes, And aren't smart enough to contribute to this world, The children are lost n they need our help, They are our future, Different is not broken, different is not stupid, different is NOT worthless, Can you feel me? Different is not broken... We need to practice that mentality, If we want any promise in our reality.
