One Late Night
It was late that night, his parents told him no But out the window he still did go The clock it read 12am, but he left anyways on a certain whim His hair was dark, eyes deep brown Never on his face did he wear a frown In his pockets he pulled out some keys A key to his car was what he would need He pressed on the gas put it in reverse Down the street he would be first He pulled and parked in front of a house Where lights were flashing and music came out He walked to the door and went right in Everyone looked and then danced again There in the corner sat all of his friends "Come on get a drink, before this party end." He grabbed a drink, started chugging it down It was a mix of something somebody had found He was feeling loose, when his friend gave him a pill And he swallowed it down like it could be no ill Minutes had passed before he fell to the ground With people passed out all around But there was something different about this one He was no longer breathing; his heartbeat was done His friend, the one who gave him the pill Picked up the phone and called 911 "My friend, he's lying here on the floor. I would bring him to you, but I can't get to the door. He's not even breathing, he's losing his pulse. I tried to revive him then he started to convulse. Hurry, he's dying I can't find a pulse!" Before anyone knew it the paramedics arrived But they had come too late, this young boy had died Tears began to stream down everyone's face Nothing could comfort, no warm embrace An officer drove to the parents' home It was better than telling them over the phone "Your son, well he has died tonight. There wasn't a chance of any good fight. The cause of death induced by ecstasy. Sudden heart failure was the key. He was dead before paramedics arrived. But he had a young friend who tried to keep him alive." This news had been too much to bear For the death of their son was so unfair If only he had stayed home that night There would be no obituary to shed such light
