P O E M 2012
P.O.E.m 2012 I. --- Peitro is barely three years old Eleonora, his great-grandmother, eighty-three And yet, they are the closest of friends Carrying on and laughing in the library but Even the studious patrons don't stare in scold Over in the children's section Eleonora sits Neatly on a stool with Peitro and a book in lap Encouraging him to follow her finger And help turn the pages and point at the words Rewarding each repetition he says with "good boy" They master four or five new words today before Happily, they pick one for check-out, and go home II. --- Protected on the lee side of the mountain Evergreens seem lighter than the windward side As we climb the rocky path around the crag Catching a glimpse, between hemlock and spruce of Earth below, cradling dimpled hamlets of homes On each abode, a blanket of thin white Now muffling the endeavors of mankind Early tomorrow we will awaken to a pine-scented Aura in our house and remember that the day is Rising to reverance, and millennial memories The whole ritual will again, play out all its Holy meanings, fulfilling what desires are possible III. --- Pumpkins have been traditional for the pie Even when war or pestilence blanketed like winter And bells tolled not for soul salvation, but sorrow Christmas, returns like the prodigal son Even as the believers huddle together to sing Oh holy night, The stars are brightly shining Nestled picture-postcards for annual invitations Every child, every mother, every bent old man Allows winter's short light, to shine a new Ray of gold, or silver, but really, a ray of hope Through chilled and scant possibilities of Hearth and home, and hope, for peace on earth © Goode Guy 2012-11-15 "God bless us, everyone" - Tiny Tim for those unfamiliar... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acrostic
