The Shortcut
The Shortcut By Elton Camp Curtis is confident of his ability to navigate At finding the best shortcut, he sure is great He never wants to take the long way around When a more efficient route can be found He was running late one day when driving To avoiding being tardy, he was striving If direct through the mountains he could pass, Curtis would save lots of time & gallons of gas A little-used pathway he happened to see He said, “That looks like a better way to me.” Just as had been Curtis’ expectation It started out in the correct direction The road began to grow narrow and steep So he cut his speed way down to a creep Ever upward the shorter route went Until it became a terribly scary ascent To the right was a solid wall of stone Left was a cliff and he would be gone For him to turn around, there was no way Quite embarrassed, Curtis had this to say “For once, I believe I’ve made a blunder. I sure hope it doesn’t put me six feet under.”
