The Freedom That Was Not Free
THE FREEDOM THAT WAS NOT FREE You were once thrown into the bottomless pit, Into its abyss with little or no water or food. Being caged like a wild animal, Away from the public and family view, For the course, you know was real. No Christmas to celebrate, no warm nights, No New Year’s Day and birthdays to commemorate, As these were just ordinary days! Jerking your ailed body and peeping through Those thick iron bars, you smelled the salty waters, You heard sounds of roaring ships and boats, The flapping wings of penguins, heavy footsteps of warders, The diving of sea lions into the depths of the oceans, And the knocking of quarry rocks by fellow inmates. Absolutely no domination by either race was the course You were prepared to live for and if needs be, to die for. Behold now, the sun is getting dark and the moon is getting dim, Stars are falling from the skies and the heavenly bodies are shaken, The heaven’s floodgates are opening and the rain is pattering now! Toy toying in the streets, we are acquiring to your new beat, The pattering rain is dampening us, and not our spirits In this moment of triumph of witnessing you being release from prison! This is the historic moment marking the dawning of our dawn, So, let’s celebrate for the freedom that wasn’t free at all!
