He had a message in that place to deliver, With this responsibility he began to shiver. To go, and that message of judgment pursue Was one thing he did not want to do. A plan was in his head conceived Which meant that from obedience he’d be relieved. A ship to Joppa he did easily find In which he was eager to quickly recline. As the storm got worse and his deception revealed, Into the water he was speedily spilled. From the darkness of the sea into the fish’s belly His strong-willed determination soon turned into jelly. From the belly of the fish he was quickly ejected, A spirit of obedience was now respected. He found himself ready now to hear A simple instruction he did initially fear. Again he was told that to Nineveh he must go, A willingness this time he was ready to show. So, off to that city so full of sin, He now, courageously, enters in. A call to repentance to the people he gave, And they, in response, did willingly behave. From wickedness they to God reverted Because they were, by Jonah, finally alerted. Great joy to Jonah this should have brought Because he had done what he ought. Rejoicing, in this prophet, one should readily see, Instead of pouting under a juniper tree.
