Earth's Last Gold
Earth's last gold is burning red I sniff the caustic scent of times Cordite fuming from the ocean bed The end of nursery and nursery rhymes The barrier breaks Before the havocking wave And tides proclaim we are slaves So much slaves We even master ourselves with our mastery And weep before the lash of misery. Earth's last gold is burning red; I say to my love it is time to go bed, We are spent, we are spent Easily like a powerless dime. We cannot save again the broken world It is time to start anew. We cannot wait too long the new to make Age has worn us tattered like old sails. Earth's last gold is burning red It is time to sleep in the arms of love And dream like lovers again Time to catch the songs of cooing doves Make them feathers out of pain. Come then, my darling, let us away We will take what's left of cinders and day It does not matter if spring comes again Earth's last gold is burning red
