The Lady On the Plane
Just a loud, lonely, drunk old lady Bumping her head against the widow My assigned seat was next to hers She asked, "Have we taken off or what?" (Yes ma'am, we're already in the air) Some of the passengers were snickering and rolling unsympathetic eyes I was a little embarrased at first but then felt a slight twinge of outrage An urge to somehow defend her honor So i answered every question she asked (Loudly so everyone near could hear) and listened with strict attention as if it all made perfect sense to me She seemed to appreciate that (The other passengers stopped snickering and rolling unsympathetic eyes) When we landed she got confused again So I helped get her things together then proudly escorted her off the plane Down the steep ramp and into the airport and helped her find her waiting, worried grandson who thanked me humbly and gratefully I'd forgotten that time was running short and ended up missing my connecting flight But for some reason, it didn't seem to matter I sat down, sighed and cracked a little smile
