A Thread of Time
We sat side by side on the greyhound bus, we’d been on the road for a while, he reached in his coat for a candy bar offering it to me with a smile. I declined but thanked him politely, not knowing what else to say, he looked at me and smiled again, “You look so lovely today.” Drowning in his soft brown eyes, he spoke in a mellow tone, he was headed west for a brand new start, simply tired of being alone. We pulled into a roadside café, our attraction beginning to grow, said he wished he’d met me sooner and where was I six months ago. Not wanting to lose the magic, neither one of us wanting to sleep we talked all night of dreams and desires and promises vowed to keep. His destination in view at dawn, with neither of us prepared, he squeezed my hand, drew me close a passionate kiss was shared. A swift embrace, a backward glance, I knew I’d never feel quite the same falling in love on a greyhound bus not even exchanging a name. I remember glancing through the glass, seeing their arms entwine, he disembarked to his destiny, I stayed on board to mine.
