The Things Around Us - Part 1
Big, giant hands are wrapped around my neck Before they let me take a step they always pull me back They slap me, choke me, wipe their sweat on me They are the hands of mighty HISTORY. Suspicious eyes are following my path "Did you commit a sin? If so, then did you take a holly bath?" Always in sight in every city, state, and region They are the eyes of the RELIGION. The heavy blistered feet are dancing on my head Their all-time mission is to check if I have read With twists and tangos leading to examination They are the tired feet of Higher EDUCATION. The hanging ears listen to my rage, Then scorn with bitter "When I was your age..." It will be wrong no matter how I plea They are the ears of Dear FAMILY. The crooked fingers holding onto theirs Antiques and mansions, gems and market shares; In priceless gardens counting every seed They are the fingers of the GREED (We often call them the ELITE).
