Winter
Winter is so long So cold So very lonely Oaks winter undressed limbs Stretch into the bone chilling darkness Seeking as if to be clothed She is the embodiment of my sorrow The bleakness of my empty heart Like Oak I too am barren Under this moonlit night Oaks silent limbs silhouette like a widow in black lace Entwined in the grey mist rising from the lake It looks like a backdrop for a spooky movie set I almost expect the lone ominous black cape-hooded rider To emerge through the haze with its scythe It was near here we often sat - in the sunshine Throwing bread crumbs to the ducks We laughed and kissed under Oaks green canopy Serenaded by bird song We were the embodiment of oneness Words couldn’t express We just knew words were not necessary We fulfilled each other There was no want No need Except - to continue We embraced the setting sun knowing The sun rose everyday- But now Just an eerie silent grey mist rising A stark reminder Of the absence of your sunshine Your warmth- your comfort I wait solemnly- Longing for spring- For summer- © Brenda V Northeast 20th of July rewrite 20th Jan. 2012
