A Cruel and Humiliating Death
Jesus suffered a cruel And humiliating death for me. Treated like one of the lowest criminals, He hung limply on Calvary’s tree. Complete self-surrender To overcome earth’s evil; Bring healing to the nations; Satan’s power to curtail. No splendor of an earthly throne, But cruelly crucified instead. A crown of sharp and penetrating thorns, Laid mockingly upon his head. No-one could shield his suffering, Nor heal his broken heart. He had to bear the sins of man; His Father’s presence to depart. Iron nails driven through his wrists and feet Produced pain so immense; He asked for a drop of water, His thirst to hopefully quench. He refused the offered substitute, Given to help numb the pain. He bore that agony alone; Salvation by his own bloodstain. A cruel and humiliating death; Christ’s submission not understood. He had the power to negate this persecution; Not be nailed to a pagan cross of wood. The Father’s will was acknowledged; Christ’s labored breath grew quick and deep; The sins of this world his great burden; No more disguise for evil to keep. Humiliated and made naked For all the world to see. He died so very quickly; A token of his Father’s mercy. This cruel and humiliating death Declared on our innocent Savior Was the battle between good and evil, Played out through human behavior. Satanic agencies confederated With the evil hearts of men. Their accusations totally groundless; Fear their sole motivation. The princes of light and darkness Were made evident on that day. The wickedness of evil For heaven and earth on display.
