Season's Change
The winter’s storm left the trees in broken pieces The season’s change stole the summer species. The frigid air freezes my lungs as I breathe in, A harsh realization of another amazing summers end. I watch my breath form a cloud as I trudge on, A reminder of things inside me that are gone. Seems the birds don’t sing; the sun don’t shine, All I have are bright memories from a warmer time. For the next six months this icy hell I’ll roam, Waging wars in my head with thoughts of a new home. I leave unwanted footprints everywhere I go, My own map to guide me back in the soft snow. Life’s cycle brings a new feeling under my feet; Changing the weather, the scenery, and eventually me. Just when I get used to the cold and give in, A new dawn comes around bringing change again.
