A Sip of September
A SIP OF SEPTEMBER we met in mid-September at least i remember there was me drinking wine and you looking fine rain didn't dampen the magic i felt that night as you recounted your life that was mostly a lie i'm sure some of it was true but I never could be sure with you i shed tears for a woman i didn't even know and suspected was lying but i just couldn't go i had to sit in silence as she spoke of sorrow as I yearned that there would be no tomorrow if it stayed that night and the moon never bid us adiu then i might have had time to decipher why you do what you do you laughed when you saw i use a pound of sugar a my coffee cup and then came the greatest lie you ever made up i was angry because you broke a date as i was ready to leave you said, under the guise of a brother-in-law, another story you'd weave oh, i'm sorry to say she killed herself last night and wanted to give something back to me it was a book of breathtaking art and about rhythm, lyrics and harmony and for half a year i'd stand waiting in the snow and cry like a baby when she had to go but that's because i knew all she did was lie yet and still i never wanted to say "goodbye" and when i thought you could invent no greater scheme than suicide you said you were carrying my baby inside a lie i knew wasn't true and was never meant to be oh now, my dear lady, do you remember me?
