Taking Cues
When I heard of the news I was somewhere being me. Somewhere further than where you were Something close to confused. But then I heard about you And I decided that what I’d do Was take the cue and be more like you. So that maybe, I’d be news someday too. Be better at things I wasn’t born to do Perfect them like you Be stronger than the gum on the bottom of my shoes And more like you Be graceful in situations that I’d rather not to Honorable like you Be the spitting image. Only a much shorter, different eye colored, easy-going, shy, lazy, curly haired, color loving, sock collecting, music blaring, messy room having, accident prone, exact version of you. Wait. I don’t think I want to—take the cue To be the you that’s less like me To lose my view of reality My humor; laugh Sanity My perfect taste in music Not to mention my beliefs And just my soul in totality. So I’ll go back to being Somewhere far away and confused Forget the news I’m done with your cues I’m who I want to be.
