Caroline
"Caroline" has many origins Some say it means a melody to sing One Latin version of flattering verbs adds beautiful words and a blush to my face But that is not how it all came to sprout Names often come from something so proud and choices a parent will toss all about. Like the bonds of friendship and with a legacy's crown They were childhood friends, hardly apart So different they were, as friends often are Caroline a redhead, was freckled and fair My mother, Alicia, with very dark hair But bonded like sisters, strong ties from the start I have heard all the stories, of how they would run Through the meadows of childhood Doing the things, that little girls should Building a bond that they both understood But deeper it went…and when I was born This woman, I knew as my mother’s best friend Was the one who was there, when mother’s life ended When grief overwhelmed me, and together we mourned For my mother would die when I was fragile and young My mother’s dear friend, bore the arms that I found She wrapped me in love, and I am deeply so proud To wear and to honor, a friendship so lasting, it still carries on ~ ______________________________________________________________ For contest: What's In A Name.....sponsor C.T.
