Fortune of Fools
chances i take...choices i make...misery loves company a new way out or just a new way in trading trouble for terror and sorrow for sin some fools never learn...some fiends never win the fortune of fools leaves me gone with the wind spinning the wheel...another number gets missed i spin it again as my thoughts start to twist round and round...wasting my soul...where it stops only God knows subtracted to nothing my greed starts to grow drained like a sink now i sink in quicksand the fortune of fools make monsters of men choosing the cards from a deck of division killer kings and cold queens make their tiny incisions 4 aces they laugh...making faces of death i lose another hand...i lose another breath with eyes that are empty and a hard heart that's hallow...the devil he grins cause he knows that i beg, stole, and borrowed begging for mercy on bleeding dirty knees the fortune of fools leaves me dark and diseased just like a thief trying to break into heavens pearly gates holy angels cry and they say, "IT'S TOO LATE" saint peter he looks through that lambs book of life...from the a to the z my name he can't find once i had all the angles once i had all the schemes the fortune of fools leaves me lost...into eternity
