Crying In My Beer
It's late, the bar is nearly empty, One or two folks left besides me. Although I can hear them, Only blurrs now do I see. As my problems have mounted, And compounded one by one... So, now I sit here wondering, "How could I ever have been so dumb?" My business is in the toilet, The house in foreclosure now. Yet, here I sit trying to think, How to "Make a purse of silk...out of the ear of a sow". I'm in such a stat of depression, Because it's not me I'm thinking of... But of the one person who has trusted me, The one who gives me "Unconditional" Love. I told her I met with an attorney, Who basically said "You're Screwed!" So, when I go back home tonight, I would not be surprised if she boooooed! "Give me another!", I just shouted To the guy behind the bar. I know he's reluctant to do so, He's afraid I'll get in my car. "I'm not driving tonight!", I say Anticipating his silent query... "Here are my keys to prove it... So, pour just one more for me." With somber face he grabs a stein, And holds it 'neath the tap. Then pulls the lever backward, The golden brew passes thru the gap. When the stein is filled he tops it, With that foam so bubbly and white. It tickles my nose as I drink it, And savor its delight. It's the only delight I have had until now, All the others have gone away. So, I just sit here drinking all alone, I'll do so until they no longer let me stay. Commiseration on a problem is no fun, Not when you must do it alone. This time I may not be strong enough, To save my marriage, my life, my home. "The fix I'm in only takes some money", I think to myself as I shed a tear. Then it slowly rolls down my cheek, And waters down my beer.
