Numbness
Numbness is what I'm feeling, But I don't know how to explain, Other than it currently seems I'm being sucked down the drain. It's hard to put on a smile, Even though it's fake. For now feeling happy Is something I can't take. Putting on a frown Is just about as rough. For when I experience sorrow, Life is even more tough. When I' m feeling numb, A protective shell exists, To keep away the fears That knowing others enlists. It allows me to be distant From the cares of this world, And away from all the pain That others at me have hurled. Yet it also sacrifices The joy that can be in life, For I am only focused Upon my pain and strife. What will it require To begin to feel once more, And know I'll be okay, No matter what is in store? For now, I'll stay as I am. Tomorrow's another day. Perhaps something will be revealed To help show me the way.
