The Good Old Days
When were the Good Old Days? Was it before we stopped to remember those who died that horrible sunny day of September 11, 2001? Was it when subways and buses were safe and weren’t bombed twice in a just few short weeks? Was it before countries started boasting about how they could blow the Earth up four times instead of just three? Was it when we could turn on the news without hearing about another soldier lost over seas? Was it before we started worrying whether our schools were going to be bombed that day or not? Was it before we had to practice sniper drills at school because no one knows when someone might want to come in and shoot the place up? Was it when we didn’t have metal detectors in schools because some kids think it’s cool to have a gun? Was it when teens didn’t care about what you wore or what you believed in and accepted their classmates for who they were and not who they wanted to be or were forced to be? Was it before teens took their own lives because of the tortures their classmates at school put them through? Was it before we left our friends behind just because they said something wrong and didn’t really mean it? Was it before people gave up their newborn children because of the problems they may have later on in life? Was it before children were lost in the deep confines of the System and never quite made it out? Was it before teens threw bricks over bridges and shattered the lives of those they hit on the street below? Was it before people shot their siblings for just for a bag of ice they couldn’t get them selves? Was it before movie stars were charged for crimes they never should have committed in the first place? Was it when you didn’t have to worry about people stealing your identity and the rest of your life with it? Was it was when we could talk to people and know that when you turned around they wouldn’t start whispering? Was it when people stopped to help you up when you fell on a busy side walk of a busy street? Was it when people didn’t care what color you were or where you were from or even what your views on life were? Was it before everyone cared about who you loved, whether it was right or not or if it was in the Bible or not? Was it when everyone was treated with respect no matter what they thought, cared about, how much money they had, or even where the lived? Did the Good Old Days ever exist?
