Failure To Launch
I tried to build a space ship; my how-to book was lost. I could not find a partner to help me bear the cost. I gave up the endeavor and list the reasons why To tamper with the Universe, I will no longer try. Within our lifetimes man has found a stairway to the stars And with impudent audacity, invaded Planet Mars. There is no place we cannot go nor things we cannot do, With telescopes so strong the entire Galaxy we view. Does God still have a secret place where we cannot intrude And does He think His children are arrogant and rude? Or might He take paternal pride in man's inquiring mind And perhaps He's out there planning more magnificence to find. It is possible that He'd rather we would stay in our own berth And do a better job of taking care of Planet Earth. He's given everything we need, if we just look around And most of us are better off to stay on solid ground. The stars have been there longer than Man has been around. Let them keep some secrets that by us cannot be found. The poet and romantic prefer watching from afar And need no closer view to know how wonderful they are.
