Admonitions To a Chair
Speak chair to thy own ease In distant silence from men's ears For you have seen, and heard Felt and smelled it all The last part of lasagna in the fridge too long And when I told her sit there You kept the evidence to your breast Quite emotionless As upon your tongue her eternity rest I watched your hands all day And you gave nothing away Except of course my countless coins Pilfered from my pocket constantly I see you bribe my children all the time Enjoying their search, Their provocative rush to grope Under you private places And then the sudden glint in eyes of joy Speak chair, for it was not I but the dog That brought the fleas in So determined to disobey ... he is the only That violates my edict, I and I alone Must use for tryst or throne What ever happened then You caught the dog's disease again. O let it go, let it go I have better memories here The music soft, the light so low The smell of musk in her hair And she sitting bare Upon the pulsing, throbbing flash and flare The sounds you heard The human unintelligible words You cannot speak that I gave you preference for the mat.
