The Fancy New Preacher
Several years back,to a new church I decided to go Been beaten up a bit in the last Devil's attack I did not know anyone there, I was new Just kind of wanted to take things slow I walked in and sat at the back Watching, waiting to see what they would do Had a new preacher, fancy suit and shoes Shining like a diamond, not a hair out of place Choir ladies acted like he was a movie star I just went there to pray and hear THE GOOD NEWS The preacher looked at me like I was a disgrace I was about ready to leave, headed for my car My clothes were clean, far from brand new The looks they gave me, I never forgot Thought that was something a matter with me I knew what I went there to do In Hell, I was not going to rot I knew that God was going to set me free The choir sang hymns, the preacher sang along Then the sermon, Hell, fire and brimstone All about sin, sinners one and all Then the preacher's eyes brunt holes in me, like I was wrong I was feeling all alone Or maybe, I should not have been there at all Soon the preacher ran out of steam, needed a glass of water Wiped his brow, he was their holy teacher The church folks stared at me like I was odd I did not think that Hell could be any hotter A church lady asked me, "Do you want to come to the front and be near the preacher" I said, :No, I think that I will just sit back here with God"
