The Letter
I wrote you the most perfect letter It had everything I wanted to say But I'm never going to send it to you Not ever, not today There are no words to write That will ever penetrate Your heart is cold, your mind is weak And I know it is too late You used me up and threw me out My disposable heart you trashed But I'll grow stronger While you get drunk And live forever in your past You lied to me from the very start I was body not a friend I say these things with a broken heart In the letter I'll never send You've gone right on living it up Drinking and sleeping around And one day you will call me up But I won't be around The me you knew Who was always true In heart, body, and mind You'll look to me when the pain sets in But that me you'll never find The me you knew is gone now You killed him with your lies You'll never see him waiting here With sadness and downward eyes The me I'll learn to be Will grow and rise above And learn this lesson you have taught And find in me my love And no one else can take that When my heart is on mend I wrote these things and so much more In the letter I'll never send
